We welcomed the addition of Coach Anh Nguyen and Coach Alex Chan to the coaching staff this season. Both teams (JV and Varsity) continued to develop and to improve our record. We sought to enhance the athletes’ physical ability by intensifying our conditioning program. We also wanted to be inclusive and encouraged our students to take various leadership roles. More importantly, we set out to compete at the higher level in an extremely competitive league. Our athletes have definitely met the coaches’ expectations.

The highlight of our season was winning a tough match against the defending champion Monta Vista High School on our Seniors’ Day in a tie-breaker. It is a great way to say good-bye to our seniors. In the individual competition, we celebrated Jennifer Yang winning 3rd place in Girl Single at the F/So League Final. We also had our leaders who have been the heart and soul of the team, Annie Lee finished 3rd in SCVL League Final (Girl Single), and Jeffrey Kuo and Derek Chao finishing 2nd in the SCVL League Final and 2nd in Boys Doubles in CCS.

With 4 freshmen, 4 sophomores and 2 juniors, we finished the season 7-4-1. We did this without having a home course to have our home matches.  We kept a positive attitude, worked hard and took pride in our progress. I feel quite confident that we improved more than any other team during the season.  I have had many rewarding years coaching, but this year I felt better about our team and my coaching than I have for a few years.   I think next year we will be as strong as anyone in our league.

Three students qualified for league finals: Juniors Andrew Cho and Kent Paisley and Freshman Robbie Pardon.  All three made the cut for the second day.  Andrew Cho and Robbie Pardon qualified for CCS Regionals and both made All League Honors with Robbie placing 3rd overall and Andrew placing 5th out of the 84 golfers from the 14 schools. (The students placing 1st and 2nd are both seniors.).  Andrew qualified for CCS Sectionals shooting 74 while Robbie shot 77 missing the cut by 2 strokes.  At sectionals Andrew shot 75 and missed qualifying for NorCals by 3 strokes.

As we have had every year, we had a wonderful banquet….. And everyone is returning next year.
