Teachers Appreciation
and Staff Appreciation Days have been annual events at SHS forever. This year, the Sports Boosters added to the list
of "Thank You" by launching Coach Appreciation Happy Hour.
"Very few people
realize how large of a coaching staff we have at SHS," says Peter Jordan, SHS AD. "In addition to the forty-plus
head coaches, the total is close to 100 when you include all the assistant coaches."
The idea for
Coach Appreciation came about at the May 5 Sports Boosters monthly meeting, and on May 28 the event was launched in the school
cafeteria. Unlike the luncheons as in the other appreciation events, this one
was a “happy hour” to accommodate coaches having to come from their day-time commitments.
Sponsoring teams provided
foods, non-alcoholic beverages, team posters, and team photos for slide show - as tribute to the coaches. These teams
were: Badminton, Baseball, Basketball (B), Field Hockey, Football, Lacrosse (B), Soccer (G), Soccer (JV B), Track and Field,
Wrestling, Swimming (G), Water Polo (G).
There are currently
a few coaching positions that need to be filled for the next school year, and Peter is asking for parents' help in identifying
potential candidates. These positions are: JV Field Hockey, JV Girls Volleyball, JV Girls Soccer, JV Boys Lacrosse,
